Were the Crooks Quaker? The Scattergood school opened up just outside of West Branch in 1890, but it's a Quaker school. Associated with the Hickory Grove Meeting. Other than that, the only boarding school I know of that ever operated in West Branch was the Indian school, but I can't remember the dates just off-hand. I want to say it was much earlier.
