Linda, I'm sure you're familiar with the Charter-Pierce website. The San Antonio Tx. library has copies of the 1840 & 1850 Ia census in book form. In the front of the books are county twp maps which list some towns, Similar maps can be found at www.skcensus.com Also there is a publication "American Place Names of Long Ago" authored by Gilbert S. Bahn. This was compiled b Mr. Bahn from the 1890 census before it was destroed. Dick
