Sylvan Pewe

Funeral services for Sylvan H. Pewe, Durant, were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, with burial in the Long Grove cemetery.

Mr. Pewe died Sept. 28 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, after a long battle with cancer.

The son of Henry and Nadine Pewe, he was born in Clinton county. He married Vera Pollock Lensch on April 24, 1971 in Moline, Ill.

Mr. Pewe was a truck driver for many livestock haulers. He owned J and S Trucking and was an owner-operator for the past 37 years.

He is survived by his wife; children, Krista Carter, Park View; Jill (Jerrie) Griggs, Ledyard; Grant (Gina) Pewe, Eldridge; Jay (Mary) Pewe, Davenport; Darci (Rob) Haigh, Eldridge; James Lensch, Tipton; and Susan Lensch (Gary) Mahannah, Long Grove; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his mother in Eldridge; and 2 brothers, Dion Pewe, Masctauh, Ill.; and Jan L. Pewe, Eldridge.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be made to the Long Grove Christian church, Iowa City Hospice, Durant Ambulance Service or a favorite charity.
