Memorial services for Glen "Jake" Unruh, 68, Mechanicsville, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 5, 1994 at the Mechanicsville United Methodist church, with burial in the Rose Hill cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Unruh died Jan. 2 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness.
The son of Louis and Bertha Hudson Unruh, he was born April 18, 1925 in Cedar county. He married Evelyn Kucera Nov. 26, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She died Oct. 12, 1964.
Mr. Unruh worked most of his life in the trucking industry, retiring in 1985 as a dispatcher for Cedar Rapids Steel Transport. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II, was a member of Busch-Dennis Legion Post 309 of Mechanicsville, past member and president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and past member of Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Union Local No. 238 of Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by 5 daughters, Carol Balster, Camanche; Sharon Unruh, Pam Smith and Wendy Mertka, all of Cedar Rapids; and Jackie Williams, Des Moines; a son, Doug, Cedar Rapids; 4 brothers, Fay, Mechanicsville; Ray, Tipton; Clair, Marion; and Henry, Lisbon; and 5 sisters, Maxine Kniffen, Dolores Truhlar and Lorraine Rudloff, Cedar Rapids; Joyce Miller, Mechanicsville; and Naomi Sell, Tipton; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
