Funeral services for Mildred Phelps, 88, a native of Springdale, were held at West Liberty Nov. 9 with the Rev. Dick Watkins officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mrs. Phelps, who had been living in West Liberty for 2 months, died at an Iowa City hospital Nov. 7, following a brief illness.

The daughter of Joe and Sarah Kennedy Phelps, she was born near Springdale June 2, 1891 and spent most of her life in New York City where she worked for many years as a secretary for Montgomery Ward company. She had returned to West Liberty early this fall.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mrs. Etta Kline and Mrs. Jessie Memis and 3 brothers, Everett, Harrison and Phillip (Buzz).
