Last rites for Mrs. J. P. (Norma L.) Sorensen, 77, were held at Mechanicsville May 14 with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery. Pallbearers were Dean Bohr, Hugh Lamont, Merle Clifton, Paul Pearson, Ronald Albaugh and Melvin Thimmes. Honorary pallbearers were Ira Larson, Norval Eelks, William Boots and Everett Ferguson. Mrs. Wayne Brown was organist.

Mrs. Sorensen died at the Mechanicsville Care Center May 11.

The daughter of Henry and Minnie Johnson Holst, she was born at New Liberty Oct. 15, 1907. She received her education in the West Branch schools. She was married to Justin Philip Sorensen Feb. 22, 1931. The couple made their home in West Branch where he was in the garage business. They moved to Iowa City where she was a cook at Iowa Memorial Union. They then moved to Mechanicsville in 1944, where they operated an International Harvester and Pontiac dealership, then a sundry store and a dry goods store and laundromat. She also worked in the post office for a short time.

She was a member of First Presbyterian church, Mechanicsville and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Mechanicsville Garden club and the Hillcrest Country club at Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by 2 brothers, Everett Holst, West Liberty and Edwin Holst, Durant; 6 sisters, Mrs. George (Alma) Rieland, West Liberty; Mrs. Erma Allar, Sigourney; Mrs. Claude (Mae) Dean, Muscatine; Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Joslin, Yelm, Wash.; Mrs. Leland (Gladys) Stahlein, Wheaton, Ill. and Mary Jefferies, West Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, Leonard and Lloyd and a sister, Fay Holst.
