Funeral services for Willard N. Hubler, 70, Mechanicsville, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral Home Sept. 21 with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry, Dean, Allen, Gary and Roger Hubler and Mike Walter. Nancy Hipple was vocalist and Patty Niehaus organist.

Mr. Hubler died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids Sept. 18.

The son of Milton and Stella Marker Hubler, he was born near Mechanicsville Feb. 6, 1914 and attended the rural Cedar county schools. He was married to Ruth M. Amend at Tipton April 7, 1943. A lifelong resident of the Mechanicsville area, he was engaged in farming and construction work.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 7th Calvary in the Pacific. A machine gunner in a heavy weapons company, he took part in the New Guinea, Brunel Archipelago, Southern Philippines and Luzon campaigns. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action and was awarded the Philippine Liberation medal. He entered service Oct. 22, 1941 and was discharged Oct. 5, 1945. He was overseas from June 26, 1943 to Sept. 10, 1945.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Diane) Kasal, Chelsea and Janet Hubler, Dallas, Texas; 3 sons, Lee, Springfield, Mo.; Steve, Martelle and Bob, Cedar Rapids; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Willams, Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Duane Walter, Bennett and 4 brothers, Maynard, Homestead; Gilbert, Iowa City and Kenneth and Richard, Tipton.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
