Funeral services for Bernard T. Soppe, 48, were held in the Frick Funeral home, Durant, Aug. 9 with the Rev. L. Jack Ehlers officiating.

Mr. Soppe died following a brief illness, at a Burlington hospital Aug. 7.

A Durant resident since 1947, he was born in Templeton Oct. 11, 1925 the son of Anton and Mary Wiskus Soppe. Carol Jean Joiner became his wife in Centerville June 19, 1949.

Mr. Soppe served as a Durant volunteer fireman for 13 years. He was a member of the American Legion Lt. J. L. Shryer Post No. 430 and a veteran of World War II. He was employed with Schneckloth Lumber Co., Durant.

Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Dennis, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, and John, at home; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard (Judy) Roenfeldt, Davenport, and Margaret Soppe, at home; 4 brothers, Leonard, Muscatine; Leo, Vesper, Wis.; William Dedham, and Lawrence, Chula Vista, Calif.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Cecelia) Buetel, Arcadia; Florence Schrad, Carroll; and Mrs. Louis (Katy) Buelt, Vesper, Wis.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers and an infant son.
