Funeral services for Donald R. Challis Sr., 63, were held at the Red Oak church July 22 with the Revs. Michael Thompson and John McFarland officiating. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Hegarty, Robert Clark, Don LaRue, Joseph Meyers, James Oetting and Fred Townsend. Mrs. Donald Hipple was vocalist and Mrs. Max Phelps organist.

Mr. Challis died at University hospitals, Iowa City July 18 following a long illness.

The son of H. Ray and Leone Strauser Challis, he was born near Tipton March 9, 1911 and was educated in the rural schools of the county and the Tipton schools.

He was married to Mary L. Richards Moylan at Iowa City Oct. 7, 1960.

He was a lifetime resident of the Tipton area and a farmer. He was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian church. He was an assessor for 30 years for Red Oak township.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, 3 sons, Donald R., Ronald K. and Dean Allen, all at home; 3 stepdaughters, Mrs. Larry (Linda) Timmerman, Bettendorf; Mrs. Michael (Carol) Thomann, Davenport and Dianne Moylan, Newton; a stepson, Marty Moylan, Iowa City; 2 sisters, Mrs. Vernon Beckmann and Mrs. Zanita Becker, Mechanicsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Mrs. Florence Arnold Challis; 2 sisters, Winifred Challis and Mrs. Don (Maxine) Whitlatch.
