Funeral services for LaVerne D. Suchomel, 56, retired Tipton banker, were held at St. Mary's church March 25, with the Rev. George Snell officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.

Pallbearers were E. J. Wilson, J. F. Casterline, Henry Fields, Walter Rismiller, Wallace Wingert and L. J. Hayslett. Kathy Wood was organist.

The rosary was recited at the funeral home March 24. There was a presentation of the flag at the gravesite by members of the Tipton post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Suchomel died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, March 22 following an extended illness.

The son of Frank and Emma Ciha Suchomel, he was born near Solon, July 9, 1917 and graduated from Tipton High school with the class of 1936. He was a graduate of a school of banking at the University of Wisconsin.

He was married to Elnora Thien at Evanston, Ill., Aug. 29, 1942.

Mr. Suchomel spent his entire business career in the Tipton State bank, going to work as a bookkeeper.

In 1955 he moved up from cashier to executive vice president of the bank and became president and chairman of the board in 1964. He retired in 1968.

He was a member and served as president of the Cedar County Banker's associaton.

Mr. Suchomel was treasurer of the Tipton Community school district from 1946 to 1950. In 1952 he was elected to the board of education and served as president of the board from 1954 through 1960.

He was a member of St. Mary church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 2537 in Tipton.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Judith) Hargrave, Tipton; a son, James, Naples, Fla.; 2 granddaughters; his mother, Mrs. Emma Suchomel, Solon; 3 sisters, Mildred Suchomel, Solon; Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Moore, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Mrs. Lee (Dorothy) Fishback, Denver, Colo.; 4 brothers, Frank, Tipton; Bernard, Solon; Maynard, Loveland, Colo. and Dale, Nigeria, Africa.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
