Dick Hulse was born March 2, 1870, at Estorf, Hannover, Germany; came to America with his parents in 1884; was married, to Miss Maggie Stroeh, on March 10. 1898, and died at his home in Clarence on May 27, 1912; of cancer of the stomach, aged 42 years, 2 months, and 25 days.

It was sad indeed to see so young and promising man cut down before his time. He had gathered about him a family that he was looking after with great care, enjoying them to the utmost. He was a successful farmer who was more prosperous year by year. His death will be greatly felt in a happy home and among a large circle of friends.

Mr. Hulse was an industrious and hardworking man until afflicted with the disease that caused his death. Early in the year, he went to Rochester, Minn. hoping to obtain relief. An operation afforded him only temporary relief and (can’t read the end of the sentence).

To Mr. and Mrs were born four children all of whom, with the mother, survive. The children are Miss Selma aged 13 years, Ernest aged 11 years, Richard aged 10, and Herbert aged 8 years. Mr. Hulse is also survived by a brother and two sisters: Henry Hulse of Clarence; Mrs. Lena Hasselbusch of Massillon township and Mrs. Louise Ernsting of Lowden.

Funeral services were held on May 30th at the German Evangelical church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Emil Hansen. Those who acted as pallbearers were: Henry F. Meier, Dick Meier, Fred Debner, Louis Wenndt, August Wenndt, John Frubois. Interment followed in the Lowden cemetery.
