13 June 1974 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Ralph D. Wingert, 89, retired Tipton farmer and businessman, were held at the United Methodist church June 10 with Dr. Glenn R. Parrott officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery with Masonic graveside services.

Pallbearers were Milton Behrens, Franklin Karn, Darrell Hurdle, Ronald G. Wingert, LeRoy E. Kakert and Major Robert A. Redmond. Iowa Chapter AW, TTT, was in charge of flowers. Terri Thompson was vocalist and Mrs. Kenneth Gold organist.

The son of Frank D. and Emma Stubblefield Wingert, he was born at York Prairie, 6 miles north of Bennett, April 9, 1885. He graduated from Tipton high school in 1901 and attended the University of Iowa. He was graduated from Brown's Business college.

Mr. Wingert was married to Edna Louise French at Cedar Rapids Feb. 20, 1907. She preceded him in death May 9, 1956.

They farmed east of Tipton until 1935 when Mr. Wingert established a real estate business in Tipton, retiring a year ago. He was also an auctioneer in his early years, with his son and grandson following him in the business.

Mr. Wingert was a 50 year member of Cedar Lodge No. 11, AF & AM, a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau. He served for 6 years on the board of education of the Tipton Consolidated school. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Dorotha) Kakert, Bettendorf; Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Karn, Belfast, N.Y.; Mrs. Milton (Helen) Behrens, Clarence; Mrs. Darrell (Elaine) Hurdle, Mt. Morris, Ill.; 2 sons, Harold R., LaPorte City and Wallace H., Tipton; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 daughters and 3 sisters.
