12 April 1973 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Walter Harry Kier, 79, will be held at the Sheets and Son funeral home at 10:30 a.m. today (April 12) with Dr. Glenn Parrott officiating. Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Contributions may be made to the heart fund.

Mr. Kier was found dead in his home April 9. Death was due to a heart attack.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Rosalie) Heeseman, Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Sidney (Virginia) Halligan, Sudbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and 3 sisters, Erma Kier, Mrs. Irene Lee, Lakewood, Ohio and Mrs. Bernice Holub, Iowa City.

Funeral services for Walter Harry Kier, 79, were held at the Sheets and Son Funeral home April 12 with Dr. Glenn Parrott officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were Herman Hass, Charles Kofron, Don Wehde, Forest Argo, Max Werling and Wayne Miller. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist and Mrs. Ronald Emrich was in charge of flowers. The flag presentation was made at the cemetery by the Legion and VFW posts.

Mr. Kier died at his home in Tipton April 8, following a heart attack. His body was found by a neighbor, Mrs. Grant White Sr. Someone had called her and asked if she knew if he was at home. At noon she stopped to see if that party had been able to reach him because the television was operating.

The son of Jerry Harold and Anna Elizabeth Reichling Kier, he was born at Davenport Dec. 16, 1893 and was educated in the Davenport schools. He was married to Lennie Mae (Babe) Heartley Jan. 21, 1920.

They moved to Tipton in 1928 where he operated an ice route, later a truck line and apartments.

A veteran of World War I, with service from 1917 to 1919, he was a member of the American Legion, VFW and World War I Barracks and the Moose lodge. He was a member of the Methodist church. He had been active in square dance circles in Eastern Iowa.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Rosalie) Heeseman, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Sidney (Virginia) Halligan, Sudbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; 3 sisters, Erma Kier, Lakewood, Ohio; Mrs. William (Bernice) Holub, Iowa City and Mrs. Irene Lee, Lakewood, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife and 2 children.
