Last rites for Mrs. Martha M. Hartwig, 83, will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Bennett at 1 p.m. today (March 15) with Pastor Wendell Henkenmeier officiating. Burial will be at the Lutheran cemetery, Lowden. Visitation at the church is from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Mrs. Hartwig died at Mercy hospital, Davenport, March 12.

Pallbearers will be Jerry, Keith and Kevin Hartwig, Kenneth and David Burmeister and Rodney Schneider. Mrs. Henkenmeier will be the organist and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Schneider will be in charge of flowers.

The daughter of Henry and Sophia Von Macher Sander, she was born near Lowden April 11, 1889 and was educated in the Lutheran parochial school at Lowden. She was married to Louis H. Hartwig at Lowden Feb. 19, 1913.

They farmed in the Bennett area before retiring and she had lived in or near Bennett for 60 years. Mrs. Hartwig was at Cedar Manor from 1969 until a year ago when she went to the Clarence Nursing home.

She was a member of St. Paul's Luterhan church and an honorary member of the Ladies Aid.

Mrs. Hartwig is survived by 2 sons, Edwin and Clarence, both of Bennett; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sons, a sister, a brother, 4 half-sisters and a half-brother.
