Funeral services for Mrs. Verne Spencer, 80, former West Branch resident, were held at Iowa City Jan. 4, with burial in Oaklawn cemetery at Iowa City. Mrs. Spencer died at her home in Littleton, Colo. Dec. 29 following a lengthy illness.

The daughter of Sherwood and Mattie Hunter Osburne, she was born Oct. 18, 1892. She attended the Iowa City Academy and taught school for several years. Later she and her husband, Allan, operated a dairy at West Branch.

From 1945 until her retirement in 1957, she was house manager of South Quadrangle dormitory at the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Methodist church at Littleton.

A son Allan, Littleton, Colo., and 2 grandchildren survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1943 and 4 sisters.
