Final rites for William Carl Dettman, 80, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home Sept. 28 with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Brown, Carl Frederick, Leo Nebergall, Walter Fankhauser, A. E. Dolan and John Hipple. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hipple and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mathias were in charge of flowers. George Thordsen was vocalist and Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

The presentation of the flag at the graveside was made by Tipton American Legion post of which he was a member.

Mr. Dettman died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City Sept. 25 following a short illness.

The son of Frederick and Elsie Rau Dettman, he was born in Hamburg, Germany and received his education in the rural schools of Clinton county. He was married to Mina Brinkman at Bennett Sept. 30, 1920.

A retired farmer, he had lived in the Tipton area for 65 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and served in World War I as a corporal in Company C, 350th Infantry.

Mr. Dettman is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Earl and Robert, both of Tipton; 5 daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Alice) Moore, Columbia, Tenn.; Mrs. Kenneth (Lillian) Schroeder, Tipton; Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Federsen, Davenport; Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Unruh, Tipton and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Hoffner, Clarence; 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters and a son.
