1 October 1970 - The Tipton Conservative

Boon Wright, 67, was killed and his wife, Dorothy, was seriously injured in a car-truck crash on Highway 30, 2 miles west of Mt. Vernon about noon Sept. 23.

Mrs. Wright was taken from the intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Sept. 29. She was severely cut and bruised and has several broken ribs.

According to a highway patrolman report, Wright was on his way to Cedar Rapids when he attempted to pass a series of cars. As he pulled out into the eastbound lane a semi-trailer, driven by James Amos Call of Muscatine approached from the east.

Wright applied his brakes on the rain-soaked pavement, the patrolman reported. As he attempted to pull back into his own lane he apparently lost control of the car which slid broadside into the semi-trailer which had been pulled off onto the south shoulder of the highway.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch on the south side of the road. The car was demolished and the semi-trailer, a grain carrying unit, was a total loss.

Funeral services for Boone Stanton Wright, 67, were held at the First United Methodist church Sept. 26 with burial in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. The Rev. Eugene Miller officiated. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Pallbearers were Don Bahmler, Arnold and Wilbur Conrad, Dr. J. D. Ramsey, E. W. Bolton and Russell Willer. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Syring and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Stuhr were in charge of flowers.

The son of Marshal and Viney Belle Jackson Wright, he was born at Moorhead, Ky. March 20, 1903 and was educated in the rural schools of Rowan county, Kentucky.

He was married to Dorothy Marie Jackson at Tipton Feb. 8, 1928 and farmed in the Tipton area for more than 50 years.

Mr. Wright was a member of the First United Methodist church and was active in Eastern Iowa square dance circles.

He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Alvin, Tipton and Earl, Brighton; a daughter, Helen, Minneapolis, Minn.; 5 grandchildren, 4 brothers, Rollie and Charles, Tipton; Clayton, Bennett and Louis, Olin.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a granddaughter.
