Funeral services for Samuel Boyd were held Thursday, April 30 at 2 p.m. in the Horner Funeral Home with the Rev. P. J. Casey officiating. Mrs. Leroy Wendt sang accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Frances Oxley. William Koch, Lee Scott, Walt Wendell, Dale Studer, Norman Williams and Purl Pearson were pallbearers. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. Boyd died at his home April 27 following an illness of 4 months.

Samuel Clayton Boyd was born Dec. 1, 1910, north of Mechanicsville, the son of Cora and Joseph Boyd. He graduated from the Mechanicsville high school in 1929. He was married to Mildred Hradek on Nov. 24, 1937 in Cedar Rapids.

He was a carpenter and a mason and was a member of the volunteer fire department. He spent nearly all his life in the Mechanicsville community.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife, Mildred, sons, William, Chicago, Ill., and Robert, St. Louis, Mo. and a daughter, Mrs. Marlin (Barbara) Flynn, Mechanicsville. Also a brother, Albert, Des Moines and 6 grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.
