Funeral services for Otis Leroy (Roy) West, 83, were held April 13 at the Horner Funeral home, Mechanicsville. Mr. West died April 10 at the Veterans hospital, Knoxville. He had been ill for 15 months.

He was born at Jewel City, Kans., Nov. 3, 1886, the son of Eli Henry and Nancy Keith West. He was educated in the Mechanicville schools.

Mr. West married Ruth M. Tharp at Rock Island, Ill., Jan. 18, 1918. He served as a private first class in the Army in World War I and was a member of the American Legion. He worked as a farmer and telephone lineman.

Rev. James Nelson officiated with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene West, Gregory West, Kenneth Coppess, Paul Roman, Dan Balster and Richard Schroeder. Busch-Dennis Post, American Legion, conducted military services.

Survivors include his wife, 5 sons, Edgar, Cedar Rapids; William, Brandon; Robert, Fort Dodge; Roy Lee, Ravenna, Ohio and Darrell, Onslow; 4 daughters, Nancy Coppess, Cedar Rapids; Ruth Balster, Marion; Velma Rassmusen, Hale, 33 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Onstott, Anamosa.

His parents, 2 brothers, a sister and an infant daughter preceded him in death.
