Last rites for Earl John Becker, 60, were held at the United Methodist church, Mechanicsville, March 20 with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. The Horner Funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Paul Gadke, Clarence Maher, Russell Moravek, Virgil Smith, Philip Nies and Forest Cook. Military services were by Busch-Dennis Post of the American Legion at Mechanicsville.

Mr. Becker, who had been night marshall at Mechanicsville for 3 years, died March 17.

An initial coroner's report stated death was due to electrocution. Mr. Becker was helping remodel a farm home for his daughter, Mrs. James Brendes, and was operating a power tool.

The son of John and Daisy Becker, he was born at Mechanicsville July 16, 1919 and graduated from Mechanicsville high school. He was married to Helen B. McKenzie at Rolla, Mo. Nov. 12, 1942.

A resident of the Mechanicsville area all of his life, he farmed north of Mechanicsville until 1957 and had lived in Mechanicsville since that time. He became night marshall in April 1966.

He served in the army from June, 1941 until October, 1945 and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. He served in the Pacific theater.

He was a member of the Methodist church, the American Legion and the Mechanicsville fire department.

He is survived by his wife, a son, David, Anamosa; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Brendes, Stanwood; his mother, Mrs. Daisy Becker, Mechanicsville; 2 brothers, Ralph, Mechanicsville and Forest, Olin; a sister, Mrs. Martha Graham, Cedar Rapids and 4 grandchildren, Cindy and Brian Becker, Anamosa and Jody and Gina Brendes, Stanwood.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Ernest.
