Last rites for John Mayer, 82, former Tipton area resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Sheets and Son funeral home. Visitation started at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Mr. Mayer died Sept. 13 at a Mt. Vernon, Mo. sanitarium. He was the last survivor of a family of 9 children.

The son of John G. and Malissa Hain Mayer, he was born June 29, 1887 in Tipton. He was married to Cora Gladfelter in Cedar Rapids March 1, 1917. He attended the Friends church at West Branch in his younger years.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Ellen, Mount View; 2 sons, John G. Jr., Sheridan, Wyo. and Kenneth Arnold, Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Parker (Dorothy) Burroughs, Tipton, 2 granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held in Mountain View, Mo. Sept. 16.
