April 3, 1969 - The Tipton Conservative

Final rites for Mrs. H. J. (Gorda Dallas) Safley, were held April 1 at the Red Oak Presbyterian church with the Rev. John D. Hegarty officiating. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

H. W. Fields, Don Rosenow, Raymond Eilers, George Lemkau, James Moore and Melvin Thien were pallbearers. Laura Geller was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Rhoads and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Maurer were in charge of flowers.

The daughter of Gordon James and Lu Saum Dallas, members of pioneer Cedar county families, she was born in the Red Oak community Feb. 11, 1887 and graduated from Tipton high school in 1905. She was married to H. J. Safley at Tipton Dec. 31, 1907.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Tipton Woman's club and a charter member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau and was active in 4-H work for many years. She was a member of the Red Oak church.

Surviving are two sons, Don, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Edward, Scottsdale, Ariz.; 3 daughters, Mrs. Bernice Bromell, Pleasant Valley, Mrs. Dwight Hughes, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Ted Albaugh, of Tipton; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
