Funeral services for Mrs. Clare Williams, 79, were held Monday at Sheets and Son funeral home, Tipton. The Rev. E. H. Lauer officiated with burial in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, May 3, at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Pallbearers were Harry Overman, Max Crawford, Walter Eiler, Melvin Gesme, Gerald Hartog and W. A. Barkhurst. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Daugherty, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin McCroskey and Mrs. Harry Overman were in charge of the flowers.

Mrs. Williams was born at Sutliff Dec. 5, 1888, the daughter of Steve and Addie Newton. She received her education in Johnson county rural schools.

She married Clare Williams at Tipton Feb. 12, 1907, and had lived here since. Mrs. Williams was a past chief of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Hahn and 2 sons, Cyril R. and Darrell N., all of Cedar Rapids. Two grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Earl Newton, Three Oaks, Mich., and Roy Newton, Denver, Colo., also survive.

Her parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.
