Last rites for Mrs. Pearl Maud Gardner, 83, were held at Clarence April 25 with the Rev. James Lusher officiating. Pallbearers were Willard Russell, Otto Helmold, Norbert Ebert, Leonard Schaefer, Henry Klatt and Fred Evers. Sybil Klatt was organist. Burial was in the Olin cemetery with Eastern Star rites by Hiawatha chapter, Olin.

Mrs. Gardner died April 22 at her home in Clarence following a long illness.

Pearl Maud, eldest daughter of Ernest and Nellie Hart Chase, was born at Manning Feb. 10, 1885 and grew up in the Stanwood area. She was married to Henry B. Gardner Oct. 18, 1906.

They lived in Olin for many years, moving to Kenwood Park, Cedar Rapids, where they conducted a grocery business.

Mr. Gardner died in July 1, 1946. Mrs. Gardner had made her home in Clarence for the last ten years.

She was a 50 year member of the Olin Eastern Star.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by a half-brother, Ernest Chase, Alameda, Calif.; a niece, Mrs. Lloyd Lathrop, of Meredosia, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Emielo Crawford; 2 brothers-in-law, Frank Gardner of Arizona and Hubert Gardner, Springville; several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Tessie Chase Jurgensen.
