Funeral services for the Rev. Peter William Happel, 80, were held May 5 at Zion Lutheran church, Wilton Junction, with the Rev. Fred Ilten, Davenport, in charge. Burial was in Oakdale cemetery in Wilton Junction.
The Rev. Happel died May 1 at Vinton after a short illness. The son of Hartman and Elizabeth Michel Happel, he was born March 31, 1887 at Atkins, Iowa. He had been a resident of Vinton for two and one half years and of Wilton for 55 years.
He married Adele Franz on June 2, 1910 in Milwaukee, Wis. His first pastorate was at Clarinda. He came to Wilton Junction in 1911 and served as pastor of the Zion Lutheran church until his retirement in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Adele, of Vinton; a son, Edmund, Lombard, Ill.; 3 daughters, Mrs. Alvin Jipp, Wilton Junction; Mrs. Joe Armbrecht, State Center, and Mrs. Charles Bell, Green Valley, Ill.; a brother, William Happel, Eldon, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
