Vera Mae Melton, 95, of Mercy Hallmar, formerly of 1245 Third Ave. SE, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, following a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave. SW, where visitation will begin at noon. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.

Vera is survived by a loving nephew, Charles Lerch of Iowa City; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Homer and John Melton, and two sisters, Nelle Landis and Ruth E. Arnott.

Vera was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Mechanicsville, the daughter of Emily and LeRoy Melton. She never married. She worked many years at Iowa Abstract and Title Co. Vera maintained a beautiful home and year until her health slowed her down. He home was formerly lived in by Mamie Doud Eisenhower and she considered it a historical home.
