Funeral services for George Stewart Leonard, 89, were Feb. 1, from the Dye Funeral home with the Rev. Richard Haar in charge. He died Jan. 29 at the Utopia Nursing home after an illness of 4 years.

The son of John Patrick and Mary Ann Dunn Leonard, he was born Aug. 28, 1877 in Cedar county and educated in the schools of this county. Most of his life he farmed in Cedar and Muscatine county, except for a few years in California. Mr. Leonard was married in 1905 to Sadie Shingledecker. He was a member of the Rochester Methodist church and a 63-year member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 24 and the Eastern Star at Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and 3 sisters. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mae Phelps, Muscatine, and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Edward Voss, Ted Worrall, Donald Worrall, Harold Wehde, Bill Anderson and Lloyd Wood, with Mrs. Irma Crawford, organist. Interment was in the Rochester cemetery with Masonic graveside services.
