October 20, 1966 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Everett Chamberlain, 74, who was associated with her husband in the publication of the Tipton Advertiser for more than 40 years, were held Oct. 16 at the Methodist church in Tipton. The Dye funeral home was in charge.

The Rev. Eugene Miller officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Ralph Gruenwald, A. S. Petersen, H. W. Fields, Ralph Wingert, Merlin Daugherty and William Naber. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery, with an Eastern Star service.

Mrs. Chamberlain died Oct. 13 at the Crestview Nursing home in West Branch after an illness of approximately 5 years.

Anita Gertrude, the daughter of Herman and Mary King Oppermann, was born at Strawberry Point Nov. 21, 1891. She attended Strawberry Point high school and, in 1914, graduated from Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

She majored in vocal music and languages in college and taught German and Latin at Mt. Vernon. She was married to Everett Chamberlain June 29, 1921 at the home of her parents in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Fredrick Witzigmann.

Mrs. Chamberlain was a resident of Tipton since 1921 and was associated with her husband in the publication of the Tipton Advertiser for more than 40 years.

She was a member of the Methodist church in Tipton, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Past Matrons club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Tipton Federated Study club.

She is survived by her husband, a sister, Mrs. Bernice Treadwell and a niece, Mrs. Merle King Schmitt.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James.
