William A. Leefers, 88, a native of Tipton, died Sept. 24 at his home in Cedar Rapids. He had been a printer for more than 70 years. Services were Sept. 26 at Cedar Rapids.

He was born Dec. 26, 1988 in Tipton and had been the owner and operator of Leefers Press in Cedar Rapids until he retired.

Mr. Leefers learned his trade working for the "Old Tipton Advertiser." He bought the West Liberty Enterprise and in 1906 he went to Cedar Rapids and opened a printing shop as Wingert and Leefers which they ran for 25 years. He then became foreman for the Metcalf Printing Co. and later opened Leefers Press.

He was a member of the First Lutheran church, Mt. Hermon lodge, No. 263 A.F. & A.M.; Iowa Consistory; El Kahir Shrine, and Cedar chapter No. 184, O.E.S. He was the oldest living past-master of Mt. Hermon, having been master in 1912. He was also a past-patron of Cedar chapter.

He is survived by a son, William G. Leefers, Cedar Rapids and 3 grandchildren.
