7 July 1966 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services were held July 3 at the Dye Funeral Home for E. C. (Curt) Mitchell, Tipton. At the age of 95, he was Tipton's oldest resident.

Mr. Mitchell died July 1 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a two week illness.

The Rev. Eugene Miller officiated at the funeral. William Naber, William Dinse, Elry Rehbehn, Robert Stafford, Paul Hutchens and Walter Conway were pallbearers. The organist was Laura Geller. Burial was at the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell was born December 20, 1870, to John Wesley and Susan Woodling Mitchell. He resided most of his life in the Tipton area. In 1900, he was married to Louie May Horn. Mr. Mitchell farmed in the Tipton area and was known as a breeder of fine Belgian horses.

Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Odd Fellows for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include a son, Prof. Carroll R. Mitchell, Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Melba Overman, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Edna Bell, Laurel, Neb. and two nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two daughter, Opal Vivian Mitchell and Mrs. George (Zola) Geller.
