Funeral services for pioneer Tipton physician Dr. Paul McConnell Hoffman, 89, were held July 2 at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church in Tipton with the Dye Funeral Home in charge. The Rev. Eugene Miller officiated.

Dr. Hoffman died June 29 at the Crestview Nursing home in West Branch following an illness of one and one-half years. He was born in Muscatine, Dec. 7, 1876 and was a 1905 graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School. He began his medical practice in Tipton in 1906 and continued until 1958 when he retired from active practice. He was Tipton health officer for many years, an honorary lifetime member of the AMA, a charter member of the Tipton Golf and Country club, a member of the Masonic lodge and the Methodist church.

He was married to Jessie Van Metre Dec. 24, 1913, in Cedar Rapids. After her death he married Rena Van Metre Whitmer Dec. 7, 1945 in Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, 3 brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul of Prairie Village, Kan.; 2 grandchildren, Paul Scott Hoffman and Holly H. Cross, Syracuse, Kan., a great granddaughter, Terrie Sue Cross, 3 step-children and nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Arthur Baer, Ralph Gruenwald, Herman Hass, Richard Moon, William Naber and Raymond Spencer. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Interment was at Tipton Masonic cemetery following Masonic graveside services.
