Final rites for Lawrence H. Werling, 56, were held April 27 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller in charge. Pallbearers were Lewis Hudachek, Marvin Ford, Leonard Hayslett, William Hendriks, Ray Robinson and Hilbert Dice. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Petitgout were in charge of flowers. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Werling died April 24 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

The son of Lewis and Leone Gregg Werling, he was born June 17, 1909 at West Branch and attended the Tipton school. He was married to Gladys Burkett at Camdenton, Mo. Sept. 5, 1938.

A lifelong resident of the Tipton area, he formerly operated the Werling Truck line and for the past 15 years, owned and operated the Werling Trailer service.

He was a member of the Moose lodge in Tipton and the Iowa City Elks.

He was a private flight instructor at Hunter Airfield in Cedar Rapids during 1943 and 1944 in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; 2 daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ann) Andrew, Caledonia, Ill.; and Mrs. Gene (Kay) Carney, Cordele, Ga.; 3 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. J. (Louise) Sybil, Solon; a brother, Wesley, Muscatine, and his father, Lewis, Tipton.
