OBITUARY
Ruth Naomi (Brodersen) Chalmers, 84, of Tipton, entered into eternal rest in the early hours of Friday, January 8, 2021, while under the care of hospice at her home.
On Sunday, January 10, 2021, the Tipton Bible Church will be hosting a Visitation at 2:00 PM, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM. Committal Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her Ruth’s memory. Family asks that cards and memorials be mailed to 1019 Cedar St., Tipton, IA 52772 in c/o Jonathan and Kerri Smith. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
Ruth, daughter of Kermit and Minnie (Frost) Brodersen was born on September 12, 1936 in Hartford, CT. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in Wethersfield, CT and on September 29, 1956, Ruth married Mark Allen Chalmers at the People’s Church in New Britain, CT. Ruth was a long-time member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington, CT; where she sang in the choir and was co-director and long-time nursery school teacher. She later became a member of the Tipton Bible Church in Tipton. Ruth was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. Ruth’s children enjoyed Lake Hayward in Colchester, CT, where they have fond memories of vacationing in a lake home that Ruth, her husband Mark, and her father, Kermit had built together in 1971. Their family lake cottage was known as “The Mouse House” because of its unique A-frame construction.
Ruth is survived by, daughters, Kimberly Randall of Bristol, CT, Kristin (Dickson) Beam of Lexington, SC and Kerri (Jonathan) Smith of Tipton, IA; sisters, Ellen (William) Houck of California and Margaret Wood of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Caroline Falcucci of New Jersey; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Minnie; husband, Mark; and sister, Joan Gustafson.
