Funeral services for Charles Wiese, 71, were held Saturday, April 3 in Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden at 1:30 p.m. following a prayer service in the family home. The Rev. Arthur Tinge officiated. Burial was in the Lowden cemetery.

Mrs. Walter Brendes and Mrs. Elmer Conrad sang and Miss Irma Strackbein was the organist. Pallbearers were Fred Wiebel, Francis Strackbein, Albert Hamdorf, Wm. Plate, Hoyt Buttolph and Amil Lashansky, all veterans of World War I.

Mrs. Amil Laschansky and Mrs. Ray Petersen had charge of flowers. He died March 31 at Veterans hospital in Iowa City.

Mr. Wiese was born Feb. 2, 1894 near Massillon, the son of Henry and Minnie Broking Wiese. He received his education in the Lowden rural and high school.

He served in the army in World War I, serving overseas in England, France and Germany. He was wounded Sept. 12, 1918 and hospitalized in France. June 14, 1919 he received his army discharge.

Sept. 12, 1922, he married Alma Burmeister. They farmed south of Lowden. Nov. 20, 1925, Mrs. Wiese died. Following the death of his wife he moved into Lowden. Aug. 31, 1927, he married Emma Burmeister.

He served for several years as night watchman, also worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and J. I. Case in Davenport before retiring because of his health. He also did tiling in and around Lowden.

Mr. Wiese was a life member of Zion United Church of Christ, a Charter Member of Cedar Barracks 1146; a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, his parents and 2 brothers.

He is survived by his wife Emma.
