Last rites for Mrs. Lewis Werling, 75, will be held at the Sheets and Son funeral home in Tipton at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) with the Rev. Harold Gillaspie officiating.

Pallbearers will be Max Crawford, Ray Potter, Charles Gibbons, Harry Overman, Clarence and Harold Conley. Jeanne Schneider will be vocalist and Mrs. Arnold Swan, organist. Mrs. Harry Overman and Mr. and Mrs. William Brinkman will be in charge of flowers.

Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Werling died early Feb. 9 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

Melissa, daughter of Van and Mary Appleton Martin was born Sept. 25, 1889 at Loganport, Ind. She was a graduate of the West Branch schools. She was married to Lewis Werling in Jefferson City, Mo., July 27, 1936.

A former rural schoolteacher, she lived most of her life in the West Branch and Tipton areas.

She is survived by her husband, a son, Clarence LaRue, Grandview, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. D. C. Wordsworth, Theodosia, Mo.; 2 step-sons, Lawrence Werling, Tipton and Wesley Werling, Mount Pleasant, a step-daughter, Mrs. John (Louise) Sybil, Solon, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a brother, Bert Martin, Iowa City and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
