November 11, 1892 - The Clarence Sun

Tarkio, (Mo.) Avalanche. Miss Anna Nicoll came to Tarkio to attend college at the opening of school in September. She began her college work full of hope and with a determination to make life a success, but in a little time she was taken ill and became prostrated by that terrible disease, typhoid fever. After tedious days and weeks of suffering, she was at length released by the hand of death of Wednesday, Oct. 20th. She was born in Clarence, Iowa, Feb. 1, 1875, and consequently her death took place when 17 years, 8 months and 26 days of age. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, a father, mother, one sister and seven brothers. Her death is the first that has occurred in the family among the children, and hence will leave in the house circle one vacant chair.

She made a profession of religion in the U.P. church of Clarence, Iowa, a little more than four years ago. She lived and died in the faith and hope of the gospel. Her funeral took place in the U.P. church in this city at 2 p.m. Thursday. The students were nearly all present, together with a large number of citizens and sympathizing friends. The church was completely filled. The services were conducted by the pastor, Dr. McNary. A very suitable address was delivered by Dr. Thompson, the president of the college. He spoke on the subject of life and immortality. Life secured and assured through Christ. He said there was no real death to the Christian. "She is not dead but sleepeth". Even the body, which must moulder and decay, will be changed and raised, and be associated with a better state of existence. Hence, the exclamation of triumph, "Oh, death where is they sting! Oh grave where is they victory!" After the body was viewed by all who desired, the corpse was conveyed to the Home Cemetery, followed by the students in procession, and by a large number of citizens in sympathy and good will for the friends of the deceased. After the body was laid in the grave and the benediction, all quietly dispersed to their homes.
