Jens Jacobsen, 77, a retired farmer of the West Branch area, died Sunday afternoon soon after he was admitted to Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

Born June 11, 1884, in Denmark, he came to the United States and the West Branch community as a young man. He was married in Denmark June 30, 1920, to Magda Jensen.

Mr. Jacobsen, who retired from farming in 1941, was a member of the West Branch Methodist church and the Wapsinonoc Masonic lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Yenger, Bettendorf; 3 sons, Ardell, West Branch, John, West Liberty and Glenn, Madison, Wis.; 4 grandchildren, and one brother, Peter, West Liberty. Another brother and a sister in Denmark also survive.

Preceding him in death were his wife, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral services were May 23 at the Methodist church with the Rev. Charles Haigh officiating. Burial was in West Branch cemetery.
