Carl T. Ploen, 86, died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lilienthal, 3 miles north of Durant Dec. 23, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Dec. 26 at Durant. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.

He was born in Germany Feb. 25, 1886 and came to the United States at the age of 14, directly to the Durant community. He was united in marriage to Fredericka Grage on Feb. 4, 1903 in Davenport. The couple farmed in Cedar and Muscatine counties until retirement in 1937, when they moved to Durant. Mrs. Ploen preceded in death in 1956.

Surviving are 3 sons: Carl, Wilton Junction; Henry, Durant and Robert, Moscow; 4 daughters: Mrs. Albert (Helen) Lamp, Bennett; Mrs. Charles (Grace) Bockwoldt, Durant: Mrs. John (Bertha) Frick, Walcott and Mrs. Alvin (Dorothy) Lilienthal, Wilton Junction; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
