Mrs. Charles (Amelia) Hartz, 78, a lifetime resident of the Durant area, died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, July 19.

She was born Sept. 19, 1884 in Cedar county, the daughter of William and Mary Petersen. She received her education in the Durant schools.

Amelia Petersen and Charles Hartz were married January 15, 1908, and spent their lives farming in Cedar county. Mr. Hartz died in June of 1961.

Surviving are one son, William and one daughter, Alice, both at home.

Services were held Wednesday, July 24 at 3 p.m. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.
