Funeral services for William Carl (Jim) Dettman Jr., 38, will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home in Tipton, with the Rev. Robert J. MacDanel in charge. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery.
Pallbearers are Robert Reeve, Harold Wentzel, Marvin Williams, Gary Holdeman, Leo Nebergall and Gene Harden. Mrs. Wendell Willer is vocalist and Mrs. Irma Crawford, organist. Mrs. Kathryn Carlisle, Mrs. Leo Nebergall and Mrs. Palmer Holden are in charge of flowers.
Mr. Dettman died suddenly of a heart attack while working in a hayfield on the Dettman family farm near Springdale Monday afternoon, June 24.
The son of William Carl and Wilhelamina Brinkman Dettman, he was born at Tipton March 2, 1925 and graduated from the Tipton Community high school. He spent his entire life in Cedar county on the family farm. He never married.
He is survived by his parents; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Brinkman, Oxford Junction; 5 sisters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Hoffner, Clarence; Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Unruh, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Feddersen, Bettendorf; Mrs. Eugene R. (Alice) Moore, Tipton; Mrs. Kenneth (Lillian) Schroeder, Tipton; 2 brothers, Earl John at home and Robert Edward, Tipton, and 10 nephews and 8 nieces.
