ROPA, OETTING, GEHRLS, BABCOCK, ROBINSON

Last rites for Art Ropa, 65, for 40 years a grocer in Stanwood, were held June 3 at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Stanwood with the Rev. Reginald Muhl in charge. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Pallbearers were Alfred Meyer, Allen Elliot, Don Smith, Cecil Winchip, Paul Ostergaard and Hy Ormsby. Mrs. Ruth Rhoads and Mrs. Alfred Meyer were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Ropa died May 31 at his home in Stanwood. He had been ill for some time.

The son of William and Minna Oetting Ropa, he was born Feb. 23, 1898 on a farm north of Stanwood. He was married to Alma Gehrls in June, 1926.

A life-long resident of the Stanwood area, he had been a grocer in Stanwood since he was 25 years old. He was active in civic affairs, serving as a member of the Stanwood council and as a volunteer fireman.

He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; 3 brothers, William, Raymond and Erwin and a sister, Mrs. Harold Babcock, all of Stanwood; a niece, Mrs. Gorman Robinson, Mechanicsville and a nephew, Don Ropa, Lynnhaven, Va.
