Funeral services for D. W. Conrad, 95, Lowden's oldest resident, were held May 18 at Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev. Edwin Otte officiated. Burial was in the Lowden cemetery.

The ladies quartet, Mrs. Elmer Conrad, Mrs. Floyd Hansen, Mrs. Walter Helmold and Mrs. Vernon Bright, sang. They were accompanied by Mrs. Lane Strackbein.

Pallbearers were Allan, Myron, Marvin, Raymond and Elmer Conrad and Harlan Butterbrodt. Mrs. Veno Conrad and Mrs. Lorenz Deerberg had charge of flowers.

Mr. Conrad died at his home in Lowden May 15.

The son of Fred and Louise Rixe Conrad, he was born April 15, 1868 on the Conrad homestead south of Lowden. He was educated in the rural school, the Zion Evangelical church school and Duncan Business college, Davenport.

Mr. Conrad was married to Augusta Eggert of Lowden April 15, 1896. They spent all of their married lives in Lowden.

In 1895 Mr. Conrad purchased a lumber yard in Lowden which he operated until 1938 when he sold it to his sons, Edward and Reuben. The business is still operated by Edward. Reuben died several years ago.

Active in civic affairs, Mr. Conrad served on the town council for 2 terms and was a member of the board of education of the Lowden school for 2 terms and was also school treasurer. He was a member of the Lowden fire department for 20 years.

He was the oldest life member of Zion United Church of Christ of Lowden at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Charles (Olga) Buck, Tipton; Mrs. F. H. (Lydia) Strackbein, Lowden; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Paul and Julius, both of Lowden.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Ferd. C. and Reuben; 6 brothers, a sister and 2 grandchildren.
