Mrs. Mary E. Benda, 92, a native of Cedar Bluff, died at a Williamsburg nursing home where she had been a patient 3 1/2 years.

Funeral services were May 11 at Iowa City at 1:30 p.m. at Beckman's. The Rev. Sherwood Roser of Williamsburg officiated. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery near Cedar Bluff.

She was born April 16, 1871, at Cedar Bluff in Cedar county, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Dodds. She attended country schools and was graduated from Tipton high school.

She was married to L. J. Benda Jan. 20, 1892 in Cedar Bluff. They lived nearly all their married lives in Iowa City where Mr. Benda was a merchant. He preceded her in death in 1941.

Mrs. Benda was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Iowa City.

Survivors include a son, Harold D., Iowa City; 3 daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Pauline) Tiss, Palm Dessert, Calif., Mrs. Harold (Marguerite) Claypool, Williamsburg, and Mrs. Ray (Marie) Cummings, Iowa City; a brother, W. O. Dodds, Ednia, Mo.; six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
