Funeral services for Thomas Herman Smith, 85, were held May 11 at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home with Gordon Smith of Clarence in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Smith died May 9 at University hospital in Iowa City after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 19, 1877 in Rossville, Pa., the son of John Pierce and Prudence Ellen Smith. He never married. He was a paper hanger and painter in the Tipton area for many years.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Cora Mae Gerdon, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Mabel Alta Thiessen, Iowa City.
