April 25, 1963 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Barbara Kofron, 82, were held April 24 at St. Mary's church in Tipton, with the rosary April 23 at Sheets and Dahn funeral home. The Rev. Edward F. Collins was in charge of the services. Pallbearers were grandsons. Burial was in Oakland cemetery near Iowa City.

Mrs. Kofron died at 11:30 p.m. April 21 at the home of her son, Henry, near Atalissa after a short illness.

The daughter of James and Clara Stastna Walta, she was born at Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, Dec. 27, 1880 and was married to Frank J. Kofron Sept. 22, 1903 at Petersburg, Va.

Mrs. Kofron had lived in the Tipton community for 40 years.

She is survived by 7 sons, George and Robert, Iowa City; Louis, Olin; Henry, Atalissa; Frank and John, West Branch and Charles, Tipton; 4 daughters, Mrs. Ed (Marie) Pentigast, Davenport; Mrs. Anna Kabela, Iowa City; Mrs. Helen Berry, Iowa City and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Brinkman, Kansas City, Mo.

Also 2 sisters, Mrs. Christine Vavra, Caldwell, Kans., and Mrs. Amelia Hubert, Steelville, Ill.; 3 brothers, Robert Walta, Caldwell, Kans.; Edward Walta, Fall River, Kans., and Rudolph Walta, Oakdale, Ill.; 35 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jan. 24, 1962, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
