Funeral services for Elvin Frank Stiff, 53, were held Aug. 7 at the Rochester Methodist church with the Rev. Robert Ingle of Iowa City officiating. Burial was in the Rochester cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites.

Mr. Stiff died Aug. 2 at Fort Morgan, Colo., after an illness of many weeks.

The son of James William and Emma Borschel Stiff, he was born near Rochester, Jan. 6, 1907. He was married to Jean Phelps March 1, 1928. They lived in Cedar county until April, when they moved to Colorado.

He became a member of the Rochester Methodist church in 1928 and had been a member of the official board for 30 years. He was a lay leader for 10 years and church school superintendent for several years.

He was a past master of the Golden Rule Lodge 24, A.F. and A.M. and past master of the Hebron Grange, past master of the Muscatine Pomona Grange, township trustee for several years, member of the Rochester township Farm Bureau and a 4-H leader for 7 years.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Tague, Gorin, Mo., and Mrs. Carol Anderson, Tipton; 3 sisters, Mrs. Irene Cary, Des Moines; Mrs. Dorothy Long, DeWitt and Mrs. Clara Linn, Rochester; a brother, A. C. Stiff, Rochester, 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son, his parents, a sister, Mrs. Nina Anderson and 2 brothers who died in early childhood.
