Funeral services for Mrs. Carl Ploen Sr., 80, were held Wednesday at Durant, with burial in the Durant cemetery.

Mrs. Ploen, a resident of Durant for the past 18 years, died at her home Sunday morning, following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 21, 1876, in Fehmarn, Germany, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Gage, and came with her parents to Chicago when she was nine years old. In 1893, she came to Iowa. Fredericka Gade was married to Carl Ploen Feb. 4, 1904, at Davenport.

The couple engaged in farming near Durant until retiring in 1938. Mrs. Ploen was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are the husband; four daughters, Mrs. Albert Lamp, Wilton Junction; Mrs. Charles Bockwoldt, Durant, Mrs. John Frick, Walcott, and Mrs. Alvin Lilienthal, Wilton Junction; three sons, Carl Ploen, Jr., Wilton Junction; Henry, Durant, and Robert, Moscow; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a great grandson.
