Ray B. Mullan, 67, a Mechanicsville barber for 44 years and a member of the town council for 22 years, died at University hospital in Iowa City April 21 following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were conducted April 23 by the Rev. W. J. Tjaden at the Presbyterian church. Pallbearers were John Sauer, Jack Hatcher, Dr. A. W. Cruse, Earl Miller, Freeman Mason and Lee Scott. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Ray Blair Mullan was born Aug. 12, 1888, at Hopkinton, the son of the late John E. and Elizabeth Mullan. He attended school at Hopkinton and spent his early life in that community. He learned the barber trade as a youth and followed the trade for 45 years, 44 of which were spent in Mechanicsville.

He was married to Nellie Ferguson July 29, 1913, and is survived by his wife and two sons, John H. and Robert R., both of Mechanicsville; five grandsons; two brothers, Bert of Cedar Falls, and Gene of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, brother and a sister preceded him in death.

He was a retired member of the Mechanicsville volunteer fire department.
