DIED.--At his home in Tipton, Iowa, in his 89th year, at 2 o'clock a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17th, Mr. Joseph Simmons. Mr. Simmons had been a resident of Cedar county since the fall of 1852, and although so far advanced in years had been able to get around among old acquaintances and relatives up to about three months ago, since which time he has been gradually failing in health until the end came as stated above. He was an esteemed citizen, and one who had witnessed the development of Cedar county from the original sod to be one of the finest and most productive in the State. He frequently visited here with his son, E. B. Simmons, and was quite well known among our citizens. The funeral occurred Wednesday morning.
