26 September 1902 - Lowden News

Sam Barlean went through the gates of death at the prime of life. He died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock at his home two and one-half miles west of Lowden, following his aged father, who died about nine months ago, and who had been permitted to dwell on earth half a century more than Sam, whose age was but about ?? years. His aged mother and a number of brothers and sisters, all of whom are married, are left to mourn his demise. The funeral will occur tomorrow at 1 p.m. from the house, with services at the M E church, and interment in the Van Horn cemetery. It seems strange that such strong and muscular men like Sam Barlean should be called so soon. One would think that such powerful constitutions would withstand all ills. Whereas many frail and infirm have a long life's journey. Death does not draw line on that score, it comes often where least expected. "Death borders upon our birth, and our cradle stands in the grave."
